Formolon PR-450 PVC Paste Resin by Formosa Industries — K65 Foaming Grade

Formolon PR-450 is a low molecular weight PVC homopolymer paste resin produced by Formosa Industries (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. for chemical foaming applications.

The K-65 grade delivers medium Brookfield viscosity (≤7,000 cps) with fine, uniform cell structure, and serves wall covering, floor covering, foam sheet, casting leather, and automotive interior production.

BASTONE supplies Formolon PR-450 to plastisol processors worldwide, alongside the DINP, DOTP, and DOP plasticizers the same formulations require.

Description

Formolon PR-450 is an emulsion-polymerized PVC homopolymer supplied as a free-flowing powder with an apparent density of 0.20–0.30 g/cm³. Unlike suspension resin, paste resin exists to be dispersed into liquid plasticizer and processed as a plastisol — spread-coated, dip-coated, or cast, then fused with heat. The K-value of 65 and degree of polymerization of 1,000 ± 100 place PR-450 at the low molecular weight end of the paste resin range, which is exactly where chemical foaming works best.

Molecular weight controls the fusion behavior that determines whether a foam succeeds or collapses. A low-DP resin like PR-450 gels and fuses at lower temperature and builds melt strength quickly, so the plastisol film reaches load-bearing viscosity at roughly the same moment an ADCA blowing agent decomposes. Timing between gelation and gas evolution is what produces closed, evenly sized cells rather than coarse voids, blow-through, or a collapsed surface. The TDS rates PR-450 for excellent cell structure in foaming products for exactly that reason.

Plastisol viscosity behavior matters as much as the resin's thermal profile. Measured on the standard test recipe of 100 phr resin with 60 phr DINP, aged 2 hours at 25°C, PR-450 reaches no more than 7,000 cps on a Brookfield spindle No. 6 at 50 rpm — medium viscosity, high enough to hold a coating weight on wall covering paper, low enough to pour and spread without a heavy viscosity depressant load. The Severs value above 300 g/100 sec at 90 psi confirms the resin keeps flowing under pressure rather than shear-thickening in a coating head.

Good air-release and plastisol stability complete the picture. Air entrained during Hobart mixing escapes before the plastisol reaches the coating line, so pinholes and surface craters stay off the finished sheet. Viscosity stability over the aging period means a batch mixed in the morning still coats to specification in the afternoon, which protects line speed on multi-shift runs.

BASTONE sources Formolon PR-450 through established supplier relationships in the Chinese petrochemical market. Buyers running plastisol lines generally need resin and plasticizer in the same container — a 100:60 recipe consumes 0.6 kg of DINP for every kilogram of resin — and BASTONE supplies both from one commercial contact.

Wall covering. Foamed vinyl wallpaper depends on an embossable foam layer with cells fine enough to take a mechanical or chemical emboss without tearing. PR-450 produces the closed-cell structure that holds a pattern, and the medium plastisol viscosity lets coaters control add-on weight on paper and non-woven substrates without starving or flooding the knife.

Floor covering. Cushioned vinyl flooring is built as a foam core between a printed layer and a wear layer, and the foam carries indentation recovery and footfall sound reduction. Uniform cell size is what keeps indentation recovery consistent across a roll. The low DP of PR-450 fuses the foam core at line temperature while the ADCA gas front is still active, so density stays even from edge to edge.

Foam sheet. Free-standing foam sheet and gasket stock need predictable expansion ratios batch to batch. Degree of polymerization held to 1,000 ± 100 keeps the gelation curve consistent, which keeps thickness and density within tolerance on long runs.

Casting leather. Synthetic leather made by release-paper casting requires a plastisol that releases air cleanly and reproduces fine grain detail. PR-450's air-release property keeps pinholes out of the skin coat, and a foamed intermediate layer built on the same resin gives the hand and compressibility buyers expect from upholstery and footwear materials.

Automotive accessories. Interior trim, instrument panel skins, and sound-deadening parts call for tight dimensional control and low volatiles. Volatiles at ≤ 0.40 % limit fogging contribution from the resin itself, and plastisol stability supports the long mixing-to-molding intervals typical of automotive part production.

Why Choose BASTONE

BASTONE carefully sources Formolon PR-450 through an established supply chain network in the Chinese chemical market. BASTONE is the supplier and exporter of the grade, not its manufacturer — the resin ships in original Formolon packaging with the producer's own documentation, so your incoming inspection records trace back to Formosa Industries (Ningbo).

Quality control draws on the group's own chemical expertise. BASTONE operates four production sites and one R&D center across its chemical divisions, and the technical staff who run those operations vet the sourced grades the plastics division trades. Chemists who formulate plasticizers know what a paste resin lot should look like and which incoming test results deserve a second look.

One-stop procurement is the practical advantage for plastisol producers. BASTONE's plastics division supplies plasticizers — DINP, DOTP, DOP, DOA, TOTM — alongside PVC resin and additives, so a foaming formulation can be sourced on a single purchase order with one set of documents and one shipping coordination point. Trade terms stay flexible, and the commercial team handles booking, documentation, and schedule follow-up through to arrival.
