Formolon PR-1060 PVC Paste Resin by Formosa Industries — High Molecular Weight, Low Fogging

Formolon PR-1060 is a high molecular weight PVC homopolymer paste resin produced by Formosa Industries (Ningbo) Co., Ltd.

Plastisols made with PR-1060 run at low to medium Brookfield viscosity (≤ 4,500 cps), hold good clarity, and show a fogging value of ≤ 3 mg/10 g PVC.

BASTONE supplies PR-1060 to converters producing vinyl floor covering wear layers, coated fabrics, and molded plastisol parts where low fogging, mechanical strength, and abrasion resistance matter.

Description

Formolon PR-1060 is an emulsion-process PVC homopolymer supplied as a fine powder that disperses into liquid plasticizer to form a plastisol. Unlike suspension resin used in extrusion and calendering, paste resin is engineered for dispersion rheology — the particle structure controls how the plastisol flows, how long it stays workable, and how it fuses. PR-1060 carries a K-value of 80 and a degree of polymerization of 1,900 ± 100, placing it at the high molecular weight end of the paste resin range.

Molecular weight is the first thing to look at when selecting a paste resin, because it sets the ceiling on mechanical performance. A DP of 1,900 gives longer polymer chains, more chain entanglement in the fused film, and the tensile strength and abrasion resistance that a floor wear layer or a coated fabric needs over years of service. The trade-off with high molecular weight resins is usually viscosity, and PR-1060 is formulated to avoid it: with 100 phr resin and 60 phr DINP, the plastisol measures ≤ 4,500 cps on a Brookfield (No. 6 spindle, 50 rpm, aged 2 hours at 25 °C) and above 300 g/100 sec on a Severs at 90 psi. Converters get high molecular weight mechanicals without having to flood the formulation with plasticizer to make it coat.

The fogging characteristic of ≤ 3 mg/10 g PVC under DIN 75201-B is the specification that decides whether a resin can enter automotive interior and enclosed-cabin work at all. Fogging measures the condensable volatiles a material gives off when heated — the haze that forms on a windshield from an instrument panel skin or a door trim laminate. A resin that passes at ≤ 3 mg leaves the formulator headroom to pick plasticizers and stabilizers against the OEM's total fogging limit rather than spending the whole budget on the resin.

Clarity and thermal stability round out the profile. Good initial color and thermostability matter in molded plastisol parts and anywhere the gel oven runs hot or dwell time varies, since a resin that yellows early forces the formulator to overload the stabilizer package. Good plastisol clarity is what makes PR-1060 usable in the transparent wear layer of vinyl flooring, where the printed décor film below has to read through without haze.

BASTONE supplies PR-1060 as a sourced grade under its original Formosa brand. Because BASTONE also supplies plasticizers — DINP, DOTP, DOP, DOA, TOTM and others — buyers can source the resin and the plasticizer for the same plastisol on one order and one shipment, which removes the usual mismatch between separate resin and plasticizer lead times.

Vinyl floor covering — wear layer. The TDS names surface layer of floor covering directly, and the reason sits in two numbers. Good plastisol clarity keeps the transparent top coat from clouding the printed layer underneath, and the DP of 1,900 ± 100 delivers the abrasion resistance that determines how long the wear layer survives foot traffic and cleaning equipment. Coating lines also need the plastisol to spread evenly at reverse-roll or knife-over-roll speeds, and ≤ 4,500 cps keeps the coating head from starving at the edges.

Low-fogging interior parts. Automotive and transport interiors are the clearest fit for a resin rated ≤ 3 mg/10 g PVC on DIN 75201-B. Slush-molded skins, laminated door trim, and headliner coatings all sit in enclosed cabins at elevated summer temperatures, where volatile condensation shows up as windshield haze and as odor complaints. Pair PR-1060 with a low-volatility plasticizer such as DINP or DOTP rather than DOP to keep the finished part inside the OEM limit.

Molded plastisol products. Good thermostability and initial color let dip-molded and rotationally molded parts — grips, tool handles, caps, filter end caps — go through the gel oven without the yellowing that forces formulators to raise stabilizer loading. High molecular weight also gives the finished part the tear and tensile strength expected of a structural plastisol item rather than a decorative coating.

Coated fabrics and abrasion-exposed surfaces. Wherever a plastisol film takes repeated mechanical contact, the mechanical properties and abrasion resistance noted in the TDS are the deciding specifications. The Severs value above 300 g/100 sec indicates the plastisol moves readily under pressure, which matters on spread-coating lines where the paste has to penetrate a fabric substrate before gelling.

Why Choose BASTONE

BASTONE sources Formolon PR-1060 through its established supply chain network in China and supplies it to export buyers under the original Formosa brand. BASTONE does not manufacture or reformulate the grade — what ships is the resin as produced by Formosa Industries (Ningbo), with the TDS specifications above.

Vetting suppliers is where BASTONE's group chemical background earns its keep. BASTONE operates four production sites and one R&D center across its chemical divisions, and the same technical staff who run plasticizer production assess incoming resin lots, documentation, and consistency between shipments. A buyer importing paste resin from China usually has no practical way to audit a trading house's quality claims; BASTONE's own manufacturing presence gives those claims something to stand on.

One-stop procurement is the practical advantage for plastisol producers. A plastisol is resin plus plasticizer plus stabilizer, and BASTONE's plasticizer line — DINP, DOTP, DOP, DOA, TOTM — covers the liquid side of the same formulation. Buyers consolidate resin and plasticizer under one supplier, one set of trade terms, and one coordinated shipment, with flexible trade terms and logistics arranged per order.
