Why DEHCH: The Safer Alternative to Phthalate Plasticizers
Traditional phthalate plasticizers like DOP (DEHP), DBP, and BBP face growing global restrictions due to endocrine disruption and reproductive toxicity risks. DEHCH eliminates these concerns at the molecular level — the hydrogenation process removes the phthalate-inducing aromatic structure entirely, making DEHCH a fundamentally safer chemistry.
DEHCH also outperforms common DOP replacements. Compared with DOTP and DINCH, DEHCH offers approximately twice the plasticizing speed, better shore hardness efficiency, lower haze, and DOP-level migration resistance — all while remaining completely phthalate-free. DEHCH is a true drop-in replacement requiring minimal reformulation.
Regulatory Compliance and Global Certifications
In August 2023, the European Commission authorized DEHCH for food-contact PVC under Regulation (EU) 2023/1627, listing DEHCH in Annex I of EU Plastics Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 with a migration limit of 0.050 mg/kg. DEHCH has also passed US FDA safety assessments for food-contact use in plastic wraps, bottle caps, and sealing liners.
DEHCH passes 16P restricted phthalate testing, RoHS screening, and SVHC evaluation under REACH. SGS third-party toxicity testing confirms DEHCH safety for children's toys and sensitive consumer products. This multi-market certification allows manufacturers to use DEHCH across the EU, North America, and Asia-Pacific without additional compliance barriers.
Superior Processing and Performance Characteristics
DEHCH absorbs into PVC resin faster than DOTP and DINCH, reducing fusion time, processing temperatures, and energy costs. DEHCH achieves target hardness at lower loading levels, cutting raw material consumption. Low volatility minimizes plasticizer loss during calendering and extrusion, while low migration prevents surface bloom over the product lifecycle.
DEHCH demonstrates high UV stability and strong tolerance to both heat and cold, maintaining color and flexibility under prolonged outdoor exposure. DEHCH also delivers strong alkaline resistance, low kerosene extraction, and minimal silica migration — meeting demanding performance benchmarks for food-contact, medical, and industrial PVC applications.
