Applications
Flexible PVC and PVC compounds represent the largest use for TCEP. Cable jacketing, upholstery coatings, and protective sheeting that must pass vertical flame tests benefit from the dual phosphorus-chlorine mechanism. In practice, TCEP is rarely used as the sole plasticizer — it is blended with a primary plasticizer (DOP, DINP, or DOTP) to achieve the target LOI or UL94 rating without reducing flexibility below specification.
Polyurethane foams — both rigid and flexible — use TCEP to meet fire standards in furniture, mattress covers, and automotive interior panels. In flexible polyurethane systems, TCEP's low viscosity allows incorporation as a liquid additive during the polyol premix stage. The low water content (≤0.10%) is essential here; excess moisture in a polyurethane system will react with isocyanate groups and generate CO₂, creating unwanted voids or altering the density profile of the finished foam.
Cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate films and coatings have historically relied on chlorinated phosphate esters as both plasticizers and flame suppressants. Cellulose nitrate in particular is highly flammable and requires co-additives with high active halogen content; TCEP's 37% chlorine concentration addresses that requirement while contributing to film flexibility.
Phenolic and epoxy resins used in laminated boards, printed circuit boards, and industrial coatings incorporate TCEP where flame retardancy is a regulatory or end-use requirement. At processing temperatures common for these thermosets, TCEP's flash point of ≥220°C provides an adequate safety margin during mixing and casting.
Polyimide processing and specialty lubricant or fuel additive applications are listed in the product datasheet as additional uses, reflecting the chemical stability of the phosphate ester backbone under thermal stress. Metal extractants in hydrometallurgical processes also utilize organophosphate compounds in their formulation chemistry.
Why Source Through Bastone
Bastone operates four production sites and a dedicated R&D center in the Hangzhou Economic Development Zone. Quality consistency comes from in-house manufacturing — incoming raw material specs, intermediate process controls, and final product release testing all run through the same technical team. Batch records and COAs ship with every order, and our technical service group can provide SDS documentation, regulatory compliance letters, and formulation guidance as part of the standard commercial relationship.
For buyers sourcing TCEP as part of a broader plasticizer or additive program, Bastone's full product range — DOP, DOTP, DINP, DOA, TOTM, and specialty additives — means consolidating purchases with a single qualified supplier. Consolidated orders reduce logistics complexity, streamline supplier audit workloads, and give buyers more leverage on pricing and scheduling.
On the compliance side, Bastone's export team handles documentation for major trade lanes regularly and can prepare REACH compliance statements, MSDS packs for target markets, and country-of-origin documentation needed for customs clearance.
